On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6 in response to the ongoing spread of the H1N1 influenza virus. As of June 12, 2009, there were 17,855 reported H1N1 cases (both confirmed and suspected) and 45 deaths in the U.S. As of June 13, 2009, there were 293 reported cases in China, 165 in Mainland China, 38 in Beijing and zero death.
